Salmon Fishing Zeballos BC
Located on the magnificent west coast of Vancouver Island. The Village of Zeballos BC is located at the head of the fjord-like zeballos Inlet. This remote BC fishing destination offers trophy sport fishing for Chinook salmon that have topped the scales at 50 + lbs! Huge schools migrating Coho , inhabit many of the kelp beds in Nootka Sound. Pound for pound, Coho are considered to be the best fighting of the five species of BC salmon.
Zeballos was first populated in the 30's when gold was discovered in the surrounding hills. The gold rush built an instant town and by the late 30's Zeballos had a population of 1500 or more. At this point there was no road and it was water access only. There were hotels, a bank, taxi service and a bakery. When the war came in 1939 many of the miners left to serve, and by 1942 the mines were shut down.
Zeballos is currently populated with about 250 residents. The main industry in the town is logging, with tourism now leaving its footprint around as well. People from all over the world travel here to fish, kayak and hike the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island. Zeballos BC also serves as an offloading port for many of the commercial fishing boats located on Vancouver Islands west coast.
The Village of Tahsis
The village of Tahsis is situated at the head of the steep-sided Tahsis inlet, part of Nootka Sound. The inlet is protected from Pacific storms by its geography. While First Nations people have inhabited the area for over 4,000 years, Europeans first visited Tahsis in 1774 (Spanish) and 1778 the English. Tahsis has around 300 residents and used to be dependent on forestry. Now the economy is moving towards outdoor recreation and tourism.
