May BC Fishing Report and Newsletter
We have just finished up the first trip of the year at the lodge in Nootka Sound. The weather cooperated and we went out for some big time action. Brad Fitchett, his father Brian and Mark Forget experienced what the area is all about. At the end of the first day the fish were lying on the floor of the boat, as we could not fit them all in the fish box. Halibut from 35-80lbs wih limits for everyone as well as Spring Salmon from 14-23lbs. The box topped out at just under 300lbs of fish, WOW! The second day I had to work a bit harder for those elusive Halibut, but with a little move in location we were on them within minutes. We released few fish in the 30-50 lb range and took what we needed to bag them out. We decided to head for some lings and bottom fish to end out the trip. From the minute we dropped the gear to the time we stopped fishing it was non stop with numerous double headers. The box was full once again with Ling Cod, Vermillion, Black Bass, Canarry Cod and Halibut. Mark and Brian had never experienced this kind of fishing before and this is why Brad brought them here. On the way back we pulled the prawn traps with another great bounty at our feet. Everyone took home hundreds of Prawns as well.
I am back in the office for a couple of days before I head back for the long haul. Our first anual derby starts June first with all proceeds going back to salmon enhancement. We have some fantastic sponsors like Shimano, Maui Jim Sunglasses and Vancouver Island Brewery to name a few. There has been a cancellation in a great spot during June 12,13,14. It is a new moon that weekend, meaning the fishing should be red hot. If anyone is interested in this spot drop me a line for a great sale price.
