Frequently Asked Questions

Salmon and Halibut fishing in BC is an experience everyone should try. Zeballos BC and Nootka Sound provide a fishing charter experience second to none. We guarantee a successful BC fishing charter from Zeballos. Our experienced guides will put you on the fish. During your BC fishing charter you can fish for Salmon and Halibut on the same day. All guides are completely certified with first aid and Marine emergency duties and all our boats are Transport Canada approved.

Beginning in June, salmon fishing Zeballos BC continues through September. Feeding on the abundance of krill, herring, needlefish, anchovies and pilchards, these migratory salmon are veracious feeders and incredibly exciting to catch. Abundant Halibut, Red Snapper, Rockfish and Lingcod offer charter-fishing opportunities, which have made fishing on Vancouver Island BC legendary.

Here is a list of the things you need to bring:

  • Large fish coolers. We have styro-foam coolers for you but most guests prefer to bring their own igloo style coolers.
  • We have raingear on board but over the years we have found that guests prefer their own gear. If you don't have raingear don't go buy it. We have rubber boats for you as well. We have enough sets for everyone.
  • Personal toiletries.
  • Sunscreen, hats and sun glasses. Long days on the water can be very demanding on the eyes and skin. Warm clothing is highly recommended, even though summer sun can be warm, the weather can change and you may require warm clothing.
  • Motion sickness prevention medicine. Although most people are not affected by sea conditions, it is not worth the chance of it ruining your fishing trip. Purchase "the patch" also known as Transderm V or Dramamine. Bonamine, is also good. Gravol works but is not as effective.
  • Personal alcoholic beverages. We do provide basic mixes and pop on board. Guests can bring their own alcohol if they want. We do have a store at the lodge that can provide beer or liquor or wine. Some packages include alcohol.

How much fish can I expect to take home?

The limits in our area allow anglers to retain 8 Salmon and 2 Halibut per trip. 4 Salmon can be Chinook and the rest Coho, Pinks, Chum or Sockeye. Most guests take home limits of Chinook and Halibut and some of the other 4 available fish. At certain times of the year Coho are almost a nuisance and limits are easy to come by. We primarily target large Chinook and Halibut and the other species are by catch while fishing for Chinook. Ling Cod and Yellow Eye are by catch while fishing Halibut, but can also be targeted.

What kind of food will be served?

Every meal is different. You're sure to dine on a selection of fresh local fare: Oysters, Prawns, Dungeoness Crab, Salmon, Halibut, Snapper, Cod or Mussels along with traditional hearty cuisine from field and garden. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available or you are welcome to bring your own selection. Breakfast consists of traditional bacon and eggs, sausage or ham or cereal, yogurts and fresh fruit, your choice. Lunches are boxed and taken on the boat with you for the day. While we do have a semi- fixed menu it is easy for us to change to suit the needs of the groups on board.
