Incredible Fishing in BC for Salmon and Halibut
2009 was another incredible fishing year for Vancouver Island's west coast. Nootka Sound, Esperanza BC proved once again to offer some of the most consistent charter fishing on Vancouver Island and all of British Columbia. Huge runs of migratory Chinook and Coho Salmon showed up in early June and stayed around until early September. Fishing Vancouver Island not only produces great Salmon fishing, but our Halibut fishing is second to none. The Halibut fishing around Zeballos and Tahsis BC is as good as anywhere in British Columbia. I consistently limit out over 90% of my guests. Sending groups home with 200-300lbs of fillets over a 2-3 day trip is normal.
The 2010 outlook looks great for fishing Vancouver Island. Fishing Victoria has already started out great. Winter salmon fishing has been hot so far and typically continues this way. The fall halibut fishing is some of the best I've ever seen. The outlook for Vancouver Island's west coast looks good. The 2010 fishing charter season is expected to be similar to 2009. If this is true, there will be more than enough fish to go around. One great bonus for us is that the commercial fisherman on Vancouver Island's west coast have had their Chinook Salmon quota cut in half. This will mean more fish around for us sporty's.
